After learning a voter had trouble finding her name on an electronic ballot, Montgomery County Council at-large candidate and former Gaithersburg City Councilmember Laurie-Anne Sayles told myMCM on Thursday that the issue is causing confusion.
Montgomery County voters noticed that for the Primary Democratic county council at-large and District 5 races, seven of eight candidates are displayed on one page, while one candidate is displayed on a second page. Sayles and District 5 candidate Jeremiah Pope are the candidates affected.
At-large Councilmembers Gabe Albornoz, Evan Glass and Will Jawando, who are running for reelection, issued a statement Tuesday saying they were “troubled” to learn Sayles’ name was on a separate page from fellow at-large candidates on the electronic ballot.
“We deeply respect Ms. Sayles and feel she has run a strong and spirited campaign, one that should not be undermined by poor ballot design. We encourage the Board of Elections to take measures that ensure a fair election for this campaign and all future ones,” the statement reads.
Tuesday, July 19 is Primary Election Day.
