Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) worked to put out a fire in Gaithersburg Monday afternoon after a car drove into a townhouse.
One person was transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries.
According to Fire Chief Scott Goldstein, at least four units will not be habitable for an indefinite period of time.
The accident occurred in the 400 block of Orchard Ridge Drive in Gaithersburg.
Two people were rescued from the rear of the four-story structure, one by a neighbor with a ladder and one by MCFRS personnel, Goldstein said.
The vehicle is believed to have crashed into the townhouse, causing the fire. The driver was trapped and had to be extricated.
The section of Orchard Ridge Drive that was affected is expected to be closed for awhile, Goldstein said.
MCFRS and Montgomery County Police are investigating.
