Takoma Park Police will swear in Shibu Philipose, the new deputy police chief, and Codi Evans, the new captain, on Dec. 5 at 5:30 p.m. at the council auditorium on the second floor of the city building at 7500 Maple Avenue.
The new appointments were announced by Chief Antonio DeVaul.
Philipose has been in law enforcement for 25 years, beginning his career with the University of Maryland Police Department in 1997. He then joined the Maryland-National Capital Park Police in 1999.
He currently is assistant chief with the Park Police. He also is a member of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission’s Diversity Council.
Evans has 24 years of experience in law enforcement, all with the Maryland-National Capital Park Police.
He has served in both the Montgomery and Prince George’s County Divisions of the Park Police serving in various positions including patrol officer, police activities league (PAL) officer, field training officer, K9 handler/officer, patrol sergeant, K9 supervisor, K9 trainer, patrol commander, field training and evaluation program manager, and community services manager.
Evans is a certified K9 trainer and alcohol enforcement specialist and a Krav Maga self-defense instructor.
