Montgomery County has a new health officer, Dr. Kisha Davis. She began her new job on December 12th. She takes over for James Bridgers who served as acting health officer when Dr. Travis Gayles resigned in September 2021.
Davis graduated from Duke University with a degree in biological anthropology and anatomy. She earned her master’s in public health from Johns Hopkins University, and her medical degree from the University of Connecticut.
She is a family physician and a strong advocate for community health. Before taking on her new role, Davis was the vice president for health equity at Bethesda-based Aledale.
MyMCM’s Liz Feldman talked with Dr. Davis about some of her goals as she takes on this new responsibility.
Dr. Davis says part of building good community relations is establishing and building trust. Davis says the County must build on the community partnerships it already has established and continue to reach out to the trusted voices that exist such as faith or other community leaders.
In part two of our conversation with Dr. Davis, she will provide an update on Covid-19 and the county’s preparedness if another health crisis should hit.
