More than $116,000 has been distributed to families affected by the November explosion and fire in Gaithersburg that displaced and hospitalized residents.
The fund is anticipated to close by the end of February, according to an update from Montgomery Housing Partnership (MHP), the nonprofit managing the dedicated fund.
Those who want to donate should do so by Feb. 28. The relief fund totals more than $138,000, according to MHP. 100% of donations will go to affected families.
On Nov. 16 of last year, 10 people were hospitalized and dozens were displaced after an explosion and fire at the Potomac Oaks Condominium complex on Quince Orchard Boulevard.
One body was recovered on Nov. 17 and the incident became a criminal investigation. The next day, Montgomery County Police Chief Marcus Jones identified the man as Juan Pablo Marshall Quizon, 36. A medical examiner ruled the cause of death to be suicide by smoke inhalation and burns, and Jones noted a suicide note was located.
