A 41-year-old Washington, D. C. man was charged in connection with the armed robbery of a postal carrier who was delivering mail in the 800 block of Hudson Avenue in Silver Spring on Jan. 23.
According to Montgomery County Police, Harold Barnes approached the mail carrier, pointed a firearm at him and demanded his property. Once Barnes got the property, he fled according to police.
At 8:15 p.m., Arlington County Police pulled over a stolen 2017 Hyundai Tucson and arrested the driver. When police searched Barnes, who was the driver of the stolen vehicle, they found property he had taken from the postal carrier. Police also located items inside the car connected to the robbery.
Barnes currently is being held without bond in Arlington, Va. He is awaiting extradition back to Montgomery County, where he is expected to be charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault and use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime.
