Montgomery County hunters harvested 3,433 deer during the recent combined archery, firearms and muzzleloader season that ran from Sept. 9, 2022 to Feb. 3. That is a 3.8% increase over 2021.
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources reported that a total of 76.687 deer were harvested throughout the state. This includes 29,682 antlered and 42,872 anterless white-tailed deer and 1,908 antlered and 2.225 anterless sika deer. That is an overall increase of 8%, which the department credits to favorable weather and more hunters.
In Montgomery County, 1,262 antlered and 2,171 antlerless deer were killed.
“Maryland hunters enjoyed another successful deer season,” Wildlife and Heritage Service Director Paul Peditto said. “Deer hunters play a valuable role in managing the state’s deer population.”
Frederick County had the highest harvest, followed by Carroll and Garrett counties.
