Metro announced a series of public hearings this week where the general public has the opportunity to provide feedback on its proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2024 (July 1, 2023-June 30, 2024).
Public hearings will be held in-person or over video or phone. In-person hearings are March 6-8 at 6:00 p.m. (with virtual options), with a virtual only event Friday March 10. Find a more detailed schedule here.
The proposed budget is $4.8 billion and prioritizes, “more frequent service that is safe, reliable, and sustainable,” per Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s website.
Metro has outlined other key goals, such as advancing sustainability initiatives and simplifying the fare system.
On top of these goals, Metro is also building a “new Metro integrated command and communications center to improve coordination between Bus and Rail incidents,” along with a training academy, as said by Metro’s Chief Safety and Readiness Officer Theresa Impastato in Metro’s budget proposal video.
