Fentanyl Crisis Focus Continues with Seneca Valley HS Health and Wellness Fair

Since January, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) and numerous community partners have held a series of forums to combat the fentanyl crisis. Initially, the forums primarily focused on educating students, parents, and the community about fentanyl overdose and the use of the life-saving drug Narcan. The first forum, held at Clarksburg High School on Saturday, Jan. 28 was attended by hundreds.

On April 30, the Magruder High School Cluster, along with local community organizations, held a Health & Wellness Fair for students, families, and staff. Magruder HS Principal  Dr. Lee Evans talks about the event in this MCPS-TV video:

The next fair takes place Saturday, May 20 at Seneca Valley High School in Germantown from 9 a.m. to noon. It includes dozens of sessions for both adults and students provided in English and Spanish. Topics include mental health and wellness, music and art therapy, how to have tough conversations, therapy dogs, and many more.

Also, there will be training to recognize an opioid overdose and how to administer Narcan. Kits with Narcan will be available for anyone who receives training.

Seneca Valley High School is located at 19401 Crystal Rock Drive in Germantown. The event flyer is available online in English and Spanish.

Anyone interested in attending the fair may RSVP online here.
