Larry Liao, a fifth grader at Cold Spring Elementary School, qualified for the quarterfinals of the 2023 Scripps National Spelling Bee.
On Tuesday in the fourth and final preliminary round,, the 11-year-old who lives in Rockville correctly spelled the word conspiration, and therefore will compete again on Wednesday.
Of the 229 spellers who began the national competition, only 137 made it to the fourth preliminary round.
