As the weather warms up, residents of all ages enjoyed a local water park while also learning about safety.
The cities of Gaithersburg and Rockville hosted Water Safety Day at the Water Park at Bohrer Park on Friday.
Residents had the opportunity to browse information booths and watch demonstrations. Attendees learned life-saving measures and the importance of wearing a life vest.
“If we were to see someone drowning, we learned some CPR,” said Eva Patino of Gaithersburg, who attended with her children.
“You ask if you’re okay, and then if there’s no response you put your hand upon the other hand and start pushing against the chest,” said Eden Rose Patino.
“When bringing a child into the water, you always want to be in arms reach from them, and you also want to always keep a life jacket on them,” said Lifeguard Instructor and Pool Operator Gustavo Montero.
“I actually didn’t know that life vests were that important,” said Caleb Patino.
“With summer being on the horizon and school getting out shortly, we just wanted to make sure that everybody is safe in and around the water this summer,” said Kegan Kim, Aquatics Superintendent for the City of Gaithersburg.
May was National Water Safety Month.
