From June 8 to July 2, the public will have the opportunity to see artwork from the nine finalists of the Bethesda Painting Awards on display in Gallery B in Bethesda. The opening reception is scheduled for June 9 from 6 to 8 p.m.
The Bethesda Painting Awards is an annual competition created by local business owner and community activist Carol Trawick in 2005 as a way to honor artists residing in Maryland, Virginia and Washington D.C.
This year almost 300 painters submitted their work in hopes of being chosen as finalists by the three jurors: 2019 Bethesda Painting Awards finalist Lillian Hoover, 2015 finalist Hedieh Javanshir Ilchi and College of William & Mary Associate Professor of Painting John Lee.
The winners will be announced in a private reception on June 7, with $14,000 in prize money up for grabs. The ‘Best in Show’ winner will be awarded $10,000, second place will receive $2,000 and third place, as well as the “Young Artist” winner, will receive $1,000 each.
