Gallery Showcases Artwork from Bethesda Painting Awards

Artwork from the annual Bethesda Painting Awards is on exhibit at Gallery B in Downtown Bethesda from now through July 2. The Bethesda Painting Awards is an annual competition created by local business owner and community activist Carol Trawick in 2005 as a way to honor artists residing in Maryland, Virginia and Washington D.C.

Winners of the 2023 Bethesda Painting Awards

Wednesday, the winners of the awards were announced. “Best in Show” went to Nicole Santiago of Williamsburg, Va. for her painting “Where Things Land.” She a receives $10,000 prize.

Second place and a $2,000 award went to Stephanie Cobb of Washington, D.C. Third place and $1,000 went to Kate Fleming of Arlington, Va. Lindsay Mueller of Arlington, Va. won the Young Artist award and received $1,000.

Santiago holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in studio art from Indiana University and a Master  in Fine Arts in painting from the University of New Hampshire. She is a Professor of Art at the College of William and Mary, where she teaches life drawing, drawing, color theory, and 2D design.

Exhibit on Display

The exhibit includes the work of the winners and finalists. Gallery B is located at 7700 Wisconsin Avenue, Suite E in Bethesda. Gallery hours for the duration of the exhibit are Thursday through Sunday from noon – 5 p.m. Visit the Bethesda Up website for more information on the artists.

Bethesda Up hosts an opening reception Friday, June 9 from 6-8 p.m. and the public is welcome to attend.
