Starting July 2, Ride On re-introduced its late-night courtesy stop program, which gives riders the opportunity to request to be dropped off anywhere on the bus route in order to reach their destination safely, according to a press release.
This comes after Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) Metrobuses started the program on June 25. More information on that can be found here.
After 9 p.m., riders can inform the bus operator where they want to get off after they board. The drop-off location must be along the designated route and deemed safe by the operator, so there can’t be any drop-offs at intersections or along a highway or freeway. About a block from the stop, the rider should remind the driver about where they want to get off.
The purpose of this initiative is to make riders feel safe while traveling late at night. Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) Director Chris Conklin said in the press release that courtesy stops are not expected to have a significant impact on regular travel times.
