Metro officials are asking everyone who rides its buses and trains to wear a cloth face covering.
“Your safety and well-being, and the safety and well-being of our frontline employees, is our top priority,” Metro officials said in a news release.
Following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control, Metro would like users of its buses, trains and MetroAccess vehicles to wear facial coverings both while they are at the stations and terminals and when riding in Metro vehicles.
Although Metro “strongly encouraged” its users to wear face cloth coverings, “you will not be denied transportation if you refuse to wear one,” according to the news release.
Metro also is asking, but not requiring, its employees to don masks.
Metro is not distributing any masks so riders need to bring their own.
Montgomery County began requiring shoppers to wear facial coverings while in grocery stores, pharmacies and large retails stores such as Costco or Sam’s Clubs as of April 13.
