Mega Millions Jackpot Tops $1 Billion for Tuesday’s Drawing

There was no grand prize winner in Friday’s Mega Millions lottery drawing so for the fifth time in the game’s history the jackpot is now worth more than 1 billion dollars.

The next drawing for the Mega Millions lottery takes place Tuesday night at 11 p.m.

Tuesday’s drawing will be the 30th in this current run. The last jackpot of $20 million was won on April 18. The jackpot grows until a ticket holder matches all six numbers drawn.

According to lottery officials, Tuesday’s jackpot—estimated at $1.05 billion—ties for the fourth largest in history. The Wolverine FLL Club of Oakland County, Michigan won $1.05 billion on January 21, 2021.

Mega Millions is the only lottery game that has awarded four prizes of $1 billion or more, one each in 2018, 2021, 2022 and 2023.

A South Carolina lottery player holds the record for winning the largest Mega Millions prize. That jackpot reached $1.537 billion on Oct. 23, 2018.

Mega Millions tickets cost $2. Players pick six numbers from two separate pools of numbers. The first five numbers (white balls) may be any number from 1 to 70. The sixth number (gold Mega Ball) may be any number from 10 to 25. All six numbers on a ticket must match the numbers drawn to win the jackpot. There are nine ways to win a prize playing Mega Millions ranging from the jackpot down to $2. The odds of winning the jackpot is 1 in 302.6 million.
