Dee Dee Bridgewater, a three-time Grammy Award winning singer, will headline the Silver Spring Jazz Festival on Saturday, Sept. 9.
The free festival will take place at Veterans Plaza in Downtown Silver Spring from 3 to 10 p.m. Bridgewater will take the stage at 8:30 p.m.
Bridgewater is the recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts’ Jazz Masters Award and has a music career spanning four decades, according to a press release about the event. She has performed with jazz artists like Max Roach, Sonny Rollins, Dexter Gordon and Dizzy Gillespie.
She also won a Tony Award in 1975 for her performance as Glinda in “The Wiz.”
The festival will feature a beer garden selling offerings from local breweries. Restaurants with a variety of food offerings surround the festival site.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own blankets or lawn chairs for seating.
