After an exhausting day under the sun, a 54-year-old landscaper from Rockville decided to unwind with a chilled beer and indulge in a round of his favorite Lottery scratch-off games. Little did he know, luck was about to shine his way.
According to a Maryland Lottery press release, the landscaper purchased four $5 Gold X20 tickets from Daro’s Beer & Wine in Wheaton, not expecting much more than a leisurely activity. To his astonishment, one of the tickets unveiled the whopping $50,000 top prize. He revealed six $5,000 rewards and an added 20X bonus over a $1,000 prize on the winning ticket. Choosing to keep his exciting news discreet, the man didn’t inform any store attendees about his big win.
The elated winner said he looks forward to sharing his newfound fortune with his wife and children. But, the thrills of the scratch-off games won’t end for him anytime soon, as he intends to continue trying his luck with them.
In a win-win situation, Daro’s Beer & Wine, located at 2501 Ennalls Ave., will benefit from the landscaper’s lucky day. The store will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for vending the $50,000 top-prize ticket.
The Gold X20 scratch-off, a hit since its January launch, ranks 21st among the Top 40 Scratch-offs currently available. Originally offering nine $50,000 top prizes and 10 $5,000 second-tier rewards, the game still has three second-tier prizes up for grabs, along with other smaller winnings ranging from $5 to $1,000.
