2. Youth Advisory Council: Councilmember Laurie Anne Sayles seeks applicants for the S.M.A.R.T Youth Advisory Council. Applicants must be Montgomery County residents, in grades 7-12 and older than 13. The first cohort speaks about the council in this short video.

AFI Silver Theatre Cat Video Festival:  Curated and edited by award-winning, Seattle-based filmmaker Will Braden, CatVideoFest! is more than 70 minutes of the latest and greatest cat videos from submissions, animations, music videos and the internet. Screening today at 12:15 p.m. AFI Silver Theatre is located at 8633 Colesville Road in Silver Spring.

4. Explore a Career in Carpentry: The focus of this virtual session of the Explore Careers in Building Trades series is carpentry. Find the skills needed to launch a career in carpentry. 5. Check Before You Go: Numerous recreation facilities close this week for cleaning. They include the Martin Luther King, Jr. Swim Center close through Sept. 4. The Coffield, East County, Plum Gar, Potomac, and the Upper County recreations centers also close through Aug. 27 for cleaning.
