Montgomery County’s newest public school opened Monday as the academic year started.
Cabin Branch Elementary School opened at 14129 Dunlin Street in Clarksburg under the Seneca Valley Cluster.
School leaders highlighted initiatives this year during an event at the school on Monday. New this year, free breakfast will be offered in the classroom at 117 sites, which is 28 more than last year.
58 schools will operate under the Community Eligibility Provision to allow students to receive lunch and breakfast at no cost regardless of household income.
Also, MCPS will have academic opportunity specialists to work specifically with middle school students to help them get access to take more rigorous coursework.
And just ahead of the first day, MCPS administration reported that the district’s teaching positions were 99.03% full.
