David Preusch, who was a Laytonsville councilmember from 1995 to 2017, died March 17.
He was a Laytonsville resident for three decades and was a licensed professional civil engineer with a background in water resources and storm water management, according to his obituary.
Preusch, 66, was born in New Jersey and came to Maryland after college. He earned a Master of Science in Civil Engineering, Environmental and Water Resources Engineering from the University of Maryland and was a water resources technical services manager at Michael Baker for more than 20 years becoming a vice president at WEST Consultants.
For the past six years, he has been a senior supervising water resources manager with WSP USA.
According to a Facebook post from Laytonsville: From Crossroads to Community, Preusch was inducted in 2017 to the Maryland Municipal League Hall of Fame.
While on council, he was an important resource for “so many town activities like planning pathways roads, sidewalks, drainage, etc.,” according to the Facebook post.
“David’s departure has left a large hole on the Town Council and among his many friends. He truly was a giant of a man,” Mayor James Ruspi said in the Facebook post.
