Abbott Elementary star and Emmy Award-winning actress Sheryl Lee Ralph headlined a special town hall Sunday with the National PTA and NEA to kick off Teacher Appreciation Week.
The event, held at Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda, provided a platform for educators to share the realities of teaching right now and what they really need to feel encouraged, appreciated and respected. It will also include a discussion on ways communities, parents, students and policymakers can support our nation’s educators.
Since 1984, National PTA has designated the first week of May as Teacher Appreciation Week to recognize teachers for their outstanding work and steadfast efforts to ensure every child reaches their full potential in school and beyond. For decades, NEA has celebrated National Teacher Day each year on Tuesday of the first full week of May.
