First 2 MoCo Babies Born During Wee Hours of New Year’s Day

It took only 13 minutes for the birth center at Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove to welcome its first new baby of 2025.

The Silver family of Rockville greeted their new son, who weighed in at 8 pounds. According to the family’s tradition, the baby’s name will be shared later, according to a hospital spokesperson.

About two hours later, at 2:35 a.m., Adventist Healthcare White Oak Medical Center in Silver Spring welcomed its first baby of the year. Annie weighed 8 pounds, 7 ounces. Her proud family resides in Lanham.

The two families received gift baskets filled with books, toys and newborn essentials.

“This time of year holds a special place in our hearts at Shady Grove Medical Center,” said Amber Richter, Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center’s director of Women’s and Infants’ Services.

“It is both a joy and a privilege for our dedicated team to be part of the excitement and love that comes with welcoming new life into the world.”

About 4,500 babies are born each year at Shady Grove Medical Center.

“Welcoming a baby is always a moment of pure joy and excitement for our entire team,” said James Rost, MD, a neonatologist and vice president and chief medical officer of White Oak Medical Center, which welcomes just over 1,850 babies a year.

“We are delighted to be part of this family’s special moment as we bring in the New Year together.”
