The American Film Institute (AFI) Silver Theatre in Silver Spring will showcase 26 films from more than a dozen African countries from March 15 to March 28.
This year’s festival marks 20 years of the celebration of contemporary African cinema. The festival is a collaboration between AFI and Africa World Project, a local multimedia educational project which focuses on spreading information.
Several films will offer audiences to participate in live Q&A’s following showings. This Saturday, Director Tosin Otudeko will be at the showing for her film “Over the Bridge.” The Nigerian film follows a Lagos based investment banker as he struggles with ethical dilemmas surrounding a rail construction project.
The program includes films grappling with issues like sisterhood, religion, forbidden romance and terrorism. A wide range of short films, documentary and feature films offers a comprehensive snapshot into current African cinema.
