After 30 years as a teacher and principal at Montgomery County Public Schools and then four years as a member of the Board of Education (BOE), Jeanette Dixon is moving on.
She spoke with Montgomery Community Media about her time on the board and her years in education.
Dixon is proud of her service but believes the BOE still needs to be more transparent and increase its communications with the public. She plans to travel around the world and tackle all the books she has wanted to read but hasn’t had time while on the BOE.
When she graduated from college, she aspired to enter politics and perhaps become president of the United States. Instead, she became a social studies teacher. From 1997 to 2001, Dixon was principal at White Oak Middle School. She then became principal at Paint Branch High School.
Newly-elected Lynne Harris will take Dixon’s seat on the BOE at its Dec. 3 meeting.
