After Biden Announcement, Many Maryland Legislators Express ‘Full Support’ for VP Harris

In a statement Sunday, President Joe Biden announced he would not be seeking re-election and expressed his “full support and endorsement for Kamala” Harris as the Democratic nominee for president.

Maryland’s federal, state and local representatives also are committing to Harris.

Gov. Wes Moore issued a statement Monday endorsing Kamala Harris for the next President of the United States.

“The American people deserve a champion who will continue the progress of the Biden-Harris Administration and that’s why I am proud to voice my full support,” he wrote.

“Vice President Harris has the experience, record, vision, and wisdom to uplift the country,” wrote Moore, who is considered to be listed as a possible candidate for vice-president.

Moore noted that Harris’s phone call the morning that the Francis Scott Key bridge collapsed was “one of the first calls I received,” adding, “In that moment, she demonstrated not just her powers of leadership, but also her powers of empathy.”

On the federal level, both U.S. Reps. Jamie Raskin and David Trone said they stand with Harris.

Raskin wrote on X, “We Democrats will be unified and focused behind our next President, Kamala Harris, to keep their great success going and to defeat the autocrats, theocrats and plutocrats.”

Trone posted that “time and time again, Vice President Harris has shown up for the American people.”

Councilmembers Kristin Mink, Will Jawando and Kate Stewart enthusiastically registered their support. Mink declared, “I’m ready for President Kamala Harris!” and Jawando posted of photo of himself with Harris, calling her the next President of the United States.

Stewart wrote, “Let’s do this!” and included a link for donations, as did Jawando.
