The three United States Congressmembers representing Montgomery County were sanctioned by the Russian government. A total of 328 members out of 435 were included on a list issued by Russia’s Foreign Ministry on Wednesday.
U.S. Reps. Jamie Raskin, David Trone and Anthony Brown made the list.
This is Russia’s response to sanctions levied throughout the world during the war in Ukraine. It is the same number of members of the Russian Duma who were sanctioned by the United States a few weeks ago.
When learning he was on the list, Trone, who represents the Sixth District, tweeted he “never thought I’d be sanctioned by the Russian government. But if this is the penalty for standing up for freedom and democratic values, so be it.”
Having grown up as a chicken and hog farmer, I never thought I'd be in Congress. Well, I also never thought I'd be sanctioned by the Russian government. But if this is the penalty for standing up for freedom and democratic values, so be it. We will not stand idly by. Count on it.
