Annual Angels of Children Toy Drive Kicks Off

The Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad, Wheaton & Kensington Chamber of Commerce, and Making Home Possible (MHP) are hosting the annual Angels for Children Toy Drive through Dec. 20.

The list of items needed include board games, sports equipment, dolls, trucks, craft kits, books, gift cards, bath and lotion baskets, jewelry, purses, hats, gloves, scarves, small electronics, and age-appropriate items like footballs, basketballs, soccer balls, books, journals, and craft kits. Toys must be new and in excellent condition.

Volunteers are needed to wrap and sort donated toys, books, and games collected in Wheaton, Kensington, Silver Spring, and Potomac.

The toy drive began in 1998 after a pre-Christmas fire left a Wheaton family in need, prompting the Volunteer Rescue Squad to request donations. The community’s response was so generous that extra toys were provided to low-income children.

Gift ideas are available on an Amazon Wishlist. Donations can be delivered to Kaylie Nguyen at 2406 Eccleston St., Silver Spring, MD 20902. Cash donations are also welcome.
