The Bethesda Arts and Entertainment District invites area artists to submit their work for consideration in the 20th annual Bethesda Painting Awards.
The first prize winner will receive $10,000. Second place will win $2,000, and the third place winner will get $1,000. A “young” artist whose birthdate is after Feb. 28, 1994 may also be awarded $1,000. Up to eight finalists will have their work displayed at Bethesda’s Gallery B in June.
The submission deadline is Feb. 27.
Artists must be 18 years of age or older and residents of Maryland, Virginia or Washington, D.C. to submit their original 2-D painting with oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, encaustic and mixed media. Each artist must submit five images, an application, and a non-refundable fee of $25.
The competition will be juried by Virginia Anderson, Department Head at the Baltimore Museum of Art; Scott Hutchison, Associate Professor of Painting and Drawing at Georgetown University; and Nicole Santiago, Professor of Art at College of William & Mary. Santiago was the 2023 Bethesda Painting Awards Best in Show Winner.
