The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) held a bike collection event on Friday, Oct. 11, in Rockville. The event collected 306 bikes, surpassing last year’s total of 297.
MCDOT partnered with the Rockville Bike Hub, whose volunteers inspected the donated bikes. The bikes were then distributed to Montgomery County residents in need through the BikeMatchMoCo program. Bikes in poor condition were donated to Bikes for the World, an international bike donation program.
This marks the sixth year MCDOT has sponsored the bike drive. The drives have collected over 1,350 bikes, though the need remains high, with more than 300 County residents awaiting bikes.
BikeMatchMoCo is a year-round program that has provided nearly 800 bikes to County residents. Residents can donate or request bikes by filling out a form on MCDOT’s website. All donated bikes must be in working condition.
