The annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day tribute takes place Monday, Jan. 15 at the Music Center at Strathmore.
The annual celebration, We Are Martin, spotlights Dr. King Jr’s life through music, art, dance, and performance.
The program presents King’s determination, devotion, courage, compassion and perseverance. Through music, dance, and the spoken word, the program will relive some of the most significant events of the civil rights movement as well as focus on members of our community who too share these elements of character and leadership.
The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Committee and the Montgomery County Office of Human Rights are producing the tribute.
The Montgomery County Office of Human Rights and the Volunteer Center are partnering with Interfaith Works to ask community members and those who attend the commemorative program to bring toiletry kits for donation for the County’s homeless shelters. Toiletry kits provide clients with basic needs and should include portable shower caddies (for carrying items), bar of soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, wash cloth, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, lotion and lip balm.
The event is free but tickets are required to attend the tribute. Tickets are available online at the Music Center website here.
The Music Center is located at 5301 Tuckerman Lane in North Bethesda. Parking will be free in the adjacent parking garage.
County Cable Montgomery will broadcast the tribute on cable (Xfinity/RCN 6 HD 996/1056 | Fios 30) or online at bit.ly/ccmtv.
Montgomery Community Media will broadcast the tribute on cable channels 21 and 995.
