Heavy rain and gusty winds are expected in Montgomery County on Saturday and Sunday as a possible tropical cyclone approaches the mid-Atlantic.
The system, which could turn into tropical storm “Ophelia,” is expected to hit land in the Carolinas Saturday morning.
The National Weather Service is predicting two to three inches of rain across the county and winds up to 35 to 45 mph.
The weather system will likely hit the area hardest on Saturday night, with the rain and wind lightening up into Sunday morning.
National Weather Service meteorologist Kevin Witts told MCM that the forecast for this storm can change, for better or for worse.
“This is a system coming off is going to produce a lot of rain a lot of wind at the same time,” Witts said.
Montgomery County residents should prepare for possible power outages, by having a supply of flashlights and batteries, and being aware of flooded roadways, Witts said.
The meteorologist recommends following the National Hurricane Center and National Weather Center websites for updates on the evolving tropical system.
There are no current advisories or warnings in place for Montgomery County, Witts said, but the National Weather Service is still determining the strength of the system.
