FeederWatch Fridays: Locust Grove Nature Center’s Project FeederWatch is a seasonal community science project on Fridays, from now through April 26, from 11 a.m.-noon. Participants count the different species of birds that flock to a bird feeder. All levels of birders are encouraged to participate. Registration is encouraged. Free. Lego Construction Crew & Duplo Too: Children ages 3 years and up and their adult may enjoy a session of building with Legos and Duplos. The event takes place at the Olney Library on Fridays from 3:30-5 p.m. Parents or caregivers must accompany children under the age of 8 during the program. Family Pajama Party: Families are invited to come to Gaithersburg’s Casey Community Center Friday evenings from 5:30-7 p.m. for a themed pajama party with a craft, open play time, and a bedtime story. This Friday, learn all about the importance of trees with bug and tree themed craft projects, toys, and songs. After enjoying a slice of pizza everyone will get cozy and gather together to listen to a delightful book about trees before bidding each other a goodnight. Cost is $20 per household. Project Prom Dress Giveaway: The third annual Project Prom Dress offers free dresses, suits, shoes and accessories to high school students Saturday, April 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Marilyn Praisner Recreation Center, 14906 Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville. Sponsored by the county’s recreation department, the clothes are free to all high school students with their school I.D.
Celebrating African Rhythms: Explore African rhythms from West Africa, the Caribbean Islands, Europe and North & South America. The Oakley Cabin African American Museum and Park will be open Saturday, April 13 from noon-4 p.m. for a free dance workshop. The museum and park are located in Olney at 3610 Brookeville Road. Bloom at Good Hope Concert Series: Pianist Joshua Jenkins and his ensemble perform a fusion of styles and sounds of Brazil and Cuba in a concert this concert Saturday, April 13 at 5 p.m. This outdoor concert is free or Pay What You Can and takes place at the Good Hope Recreation Center located at 14715 Good Hope Road in White Oak. Storytime in the Garden: This activity is for children ages 3-7 at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton. First, children will enjoy a story time followed by an outdoor exploration. Spring Wildflower Walk: Locust Grove Nature Center’s naturalist will lead a stroll through the trail at the nature center. The goal to find and identify the beautiful woodland wildflowers. The trail is on natural surfaces with dirt, rock and rut and is considered moderate difficulty. Garden Day: Discover the joys and benefits of gardening in this drop in activity at the Black Hill Discovery Center Sunday, April 14 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Participants will receive a information pack about invasive and native plants, pollinators, and gardening for wildlife. Included will be a take-home activity for kids. Free, but registration is required to receive the information packs. And One More Concert: The United States Navy Band performs this Friday, April 12 at Montgomery College’s Cultural Arts Center in Silver Spring. Admission is free and no tickets are required. The Center is located at 7995 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring.
