April McClain Delaney (D) announced she is running for the state’s 6th congressional district on Wednesday.
She is married to former Congressman John Delaney, who held the seat from 2013-2019.
The seat is currently held by U.S. Rep. David Trone (MD-6), who announced in May that he is running for U.S. Senate now that Sen. Ben Cardin will not seek reelection.
“We’re facing tough challenges – the high cost of living, the impact of AI and technology on work and families, and the need to protect reproductive freedom and to act on climate,” Delaney said in a written statement. “It’s time to rebuild trust in government and use common sense to find common ground and make some progress.”
“The U.S. House is in total meltdown because of a handful of extremists, and the people who pay the price for this lunacy are the folks across the 6th District. I believe we can build a coalition of the willing so together we can get things done and make meaningful changes for our families and communities.”
Per a release from her campaign, Delaney was recently Deputy Assistant Secretary of Communications at the Department of Commerce under the Biden Administration.
Other candidates in the race include Montgomery County Councilmember Laurie-Anne Sayles, Former Chevy Chase Councilmember Joel Rubin, Del. Joe Vogel.
Maryland’s 6th congressional district is made up of several counties including part of Montgomery County.
