Police said five people were arrested last Thursday in a “retail blitz” at Safeway on Bradley Boulevard in Bethesda.
At about 12:30 p.m. March 20, two suspects went into the Safeway, according to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD). One suspect, Shelon Emmanel Johnson, 34, stole property and left the store. Police arrested him, finding stolen property and drug paraphernalia. He also had two active arrest warrants for theft and violating probation for drug possession, according to police.
The other suspect was identified as Dequita LaShawn Jones of Gaithersburg. Police said she and Johnson conspired on the thefts. They both provided false names. Johnson was charged with theft, possession of drug paraphernalia, false statement to an officer, and obstructing and hindering. Jones was charged with conspiracy to commit theft, and she was released on her own recognizance.
Then at 2 p.m. that day, another suspect, identified as Daniel Mossing Troen of Kensington, stole property from the Safeway, according to police. He was given a trespass notice and criminal citation and was released.
Less than an hour later, two more suspects stole from the same Safeway, police stated. They were arrested at the Bethesda Metro Station. They were identified as James Baker, 39, and Kristchelle Aniya Wedge, 19, both from Washington, D.C. They were both charged with theft and issued trespass notices and criminal citations, according to police. They were released from the scene.
