Welcome to MCM’s Weekend Roundup of entertainment in Montgomery County. Here are 9 things to do this weekend, Aug. 2-4.

Friday, August 2

August Art Exhibit: Artists & Makers Studios hosts “Candy Coated” exhibit by artist Megan Maher during August. The exhibit runs from July 31 to August 28, with an opening reception on Friday, August 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. On Saturday, August 17 from 1 to 3 p.m. Maher will hold a Meet the Artist session.  Artists & Makers Studios are located at 11810 Parklawn Drive, Suite 210 in Rockville. Summer Concert Series: The free outdoor concerts take place in the Rockville Town Square on Friday nights from now through September. Today, the Don’t Back Down rock band performs from 6 – 9 p.m. The splash pads are open daily. For more information, click here.

First Fridays: Chevy Chase Main Street celebrates the first Friday of each month from now through December with an outdoor market, music, dancing and an unique opportunity for young entrepreneurs age 5-17 years old. Budding young entrepreneurs gain firsthand experience delivering sales pitches, conducting transactions and honing customer service. The outdoor artisan market features 20 local vendors. Bring your dancing shoes as New Columbia Swing dance instructors will provide instruction. First Friday is located along the Chevy Chase corridor. For more information, click here.

Saturday, August 3

2024 Fiesta Asia Street Fair: This festival brings together the diverse Asian cultures on one street. Participants can experience the richness of the arts and tradition with live performances and karaoke all day long. The fair is located at 920 Ellsworth Drive. Free admission. Dunnie Onasanya Art Exhibit: VisArts solo exhibit by artist Dunnie Onasanya opened July 5 and continues through Sept. 29 in the 355 POD Space gallery. Onasanya describes her work as an exploration of Pan African modernism which delves into the connectedness of the historic and the abstract through color, texture and vibrancy. VisArts opening reception is scheduled for Sept. 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. Free. VisArts is located at 155 Gibbs Street, an easy walk from the Rockville Metro station. Caribbean-American Heritage and Resource Fair: Cultures from Haiti, Panama, Dominican Republic, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Lucia and Grenada will be featured at the event on Saturday, August 3 from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Marian Fryer Town Plaza. There will be a diverse array of foods, entertainment, culture, hands-on learning and resources. Free. Held rain or shine. The Marian Fryer Town Plaza is located at 2424 Reedie Drive in Wheaton. Caribbean-American Heritage Festival Set for Aug 3 in Wheaton

Sunday, August 4

Falsettos: The Theatre at CBT presents the musical Falsettos based on the novel by William Finn & James Lapine. Falsettos is the story of a dysfunctional, but loving, Jewish family in New York at the end of the 1970s and early 1980s as the family plans for a Bar Mitzvah. Performance are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through August 18 at Gaithersburg’s Arts Barn. Recommended for ages 12 and up. Ticket prices range between $16 and $25. Olney Art Association Exhibition Meet and Greet: Sandy Spring Museum opens the Olney Art Association Exhibition with an Artist Meet and Greet from 1 to 3 p.m. Enjoy the artwork, vote for your favorite artwork in the People’s Choice Awards, enjoy light refreshments. One Act Festival: Silver Spring Stage presents a festival of 11 one act shows from Aug. 2 – 11. Tickets cost $22 for students and seniors, $25 for adults. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here. Silver Spring Stage is located at 10145 Colesville Rd.
