Aug 23-25 Weekend Roundup of Things To Do in Montgomery County

This weekend offers many options for entertainment and education in Montgomery County. Take a look at these nine events happening from Friday, Aug. 23 to Sunday, Aug. 25.

Friday, August 23

Mental Health Exhibit

Starting today until Oct. 5, the Arts Barn Gallery in Gaithersburg will host an exhibit, “Pull Up A Chair 2.0: A Conversation About Mental Health,” aimed at reducing the stigma around mental health and highlighting experiences of community members. The Arts Barn is located at 311 Kent Square Road in Gaithersburg and is open Tuesday – Saturday from 1-5 p.m. For more information, click here.

Tiny Tots Time

Tiny Tots Time takes place from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.  at the Silver Spring Recreation and Aquatic Center in the gym and indoor playground. Young kids can socialize and play with many toys and games. The event is free. See more here.

Rio Lakefront Summer Concert

Tonight’s Lakefront Live Summer Concert at Rio in Gaithersburg features steel drum band “Wenti & Joyy.” The concert is 6-9 p.m. at the boardwalk stage by Guapo’s. See more here.

Saturday, August 24

Open Mic at Brookside Gardens

Brookside Gardens in Wheaton will host a Poetry and Music Open Mic. The event will highlight writers, poets, and musicians with disabilities, though all writers and musicians are welcome to perform. It is a free event and there will be light refreshments. See more here.

Farmers Markets

There are farmers markets Saturday in Rockville and Silver Spring. The market in Rockville is 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the jury parking lot on the corner of Rt. 28 and Monroe Street. The market in downtown Silver Spring is 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Veterans Plaza. For more information about the Rockville farmers market, click here. Pokémon Afternoon 

From 2-4 p.m. the Brigadier General Charles E. McGee Library in downtown Silver Spring will host activities that are all about Pokémon, like crafts, coloring, and trading cards. See more here.

Sunday, August 25

Pooch Pool Party

The county recreation department will host the ultimate canine celebration Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Upper County Outdoor Pool in Gaithersburg. Pre-registration is required. County residents must ensure their dogs have a current county dog license. Tickets range from $10-$25, with the lower price available only to county residents. Each dog must be accompanied by an adult, and proof of a current rabies vaccination is required for every participating dog. For more information or to register, click here.

TopGolf Fundraiser

From 12-3 p.m., TopGolf in Germantown will host a fundraiser for the Circle of Hope Therapeutic Riding organization in Barnesville. Tickets can be purchased here. See more about Circle of Hope here.

Sprinklers, Bubbles and Rainbows

From 1:30-3:30 p.m. families can run through sprinklers, splash and make giant bubbles at Black Hill Discovery Center in Boyds. Montgomery Parks advises residents to bring sunscreen, a towel, and a change of clothes. It is a free event. See more here.
