FRIDAY, August 18
Agricultural Fair: The 74th Montgomery County Agricultural Fair at the fairgrounds in Gaithersburg is open daily through Saturday, Aug. 19.
Read Across Generations Program: Students entering kindergarten through third grade can practice their reading skills by reading one-on-0ne with volunteers at the Long Branch Library from 10:30 a.m. to noon. No registration is required. Learn more here.
‘Read Across Generations’ Program Aims to Improve Student Reading Comprehension
Yappy Hour: Bring your pooch for a lively happy hour at the Kentlands Mansion garden from 5-7 p.m. Admission is $5 for Gaithersburg City residents, $7 for nonresidents, per household. Pets must be on non-retractable leashes, current on their vaccinations, and enjoy the company of other animals and people. Food, beer and wine will be available for purchase. SATURDAY, August 19
Renaissance Faire! Tribute at Black Hill, a retirement community in Germantown, hosts a renaissance fair for a morning of live music, games, finger foods, a photo booth, and more. Tribute at Black Hill is located at 312 Baltusrol Drive in Germantown. The fair runs from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Learn more here.
Tasty Books series for young children ages 2-8 continues Saturday with ‘We Don’t Eat Our Classmates’ from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. As the story is read aloud, children work on a craft and make a snack related to the story. Montgomery County Children’s Business Fair: Young business owners participate in the fair, presenting their ideas and practicing sales pitches. A panel of local business community members judge the entries. The fair takes place at Rockville Town Center on from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is open to the public. Learn more about the fair here.
SUNDAY, August 20
Regeneration-Connection-Celebration Exhibit Artist Talk: Artist Shanye Huang talks about his artwork and cultural traditions seen in the current Sandy Spring Museum’s exhibit. Huang demonstrates Chinese paper-cut tenchiques and leads the group in a paper-cutting workshop.The 2 hour workshop starts Sunday at 2 p.m. The talk and workshop is free, register here.
Stephanie Cobb ‘On Closeness’ Exhibit at VisArts: Artist Stephanie Cobb’s paintings are currently on display at Rockville’s VisArts 355 POD Space Gallery from now through Oct. 29. Learn more about the artist and exhibit here. VisArts is located at 155 Gibbs Street in Rockville.
