Update: Police said in a 7:10 p.m. update that the coyote was shot, killed and will be tested for rabies. It was found along a trail near Dustin Road in Burtonsville.
Original: Authorities are looking for a coyote that reportedly attacked two women at separate locations in the county on Thursday.
Montgomery County police, animal services, and the state Department of Natural Resources are on the lookout, according to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD).
The first attack was reported at about 9:44 a.m. Thursday morning. According to police, a woman walking her dog was attacked by a coyote in the 1400 block of Patuxent Drive in Ashton near the Watershed Park. She was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Then at about 3:44 p.m., it was reported that a woman was attacked by a coyote in the 3600 block of Bell Road in Burtonsville. Police said she was able to fight it off and stab the coyote.
MCPD advises residents to stay vigilant and aware of their surroundings. Residents are told not to approach the coyote directly if they see it. They should call 911 or animal services at 240-773-5925.
