A bald eagle is back in the wild after colliding with a car in Calvert County.
The county’s Animal Control Division responded to an early Saturday call reporting a driver had accidentally collided with an eagle on Route 4. After stopping the vehicle, the driver realized that the eagle was alive but stuck in the car’s grill. A county animal control officer helped the eagle free, the county sheriff’s office said.
“After a thorough examination, all were relieved to find the bird seemed to be in good health and was quickly released back into the wild,” the office said.
Most of Maryland’s bald eagles are concentrated around the Chesapeake Bay, according to the state’s Department of Natural Resources. The department said a ban on the use of the pesticide DDT helped the bird’s population, once considered endangered, to make a “tremendous comeback.”
