Award-winning poet and author Bernadine (Dine) Watson discussed her latest work, “Transplant: A Memoir,” at the Gaithersburg Book Festival (GBF) on May 18. The book details Watson’s battle with kidney disease, offering a powerful portrait of what it means to be Black, female, and confronting a deadly illness that disproportionately affects African Americans. “Transplant” won the 2023 Washington Writers’ Publishing House prize for nonfiction.
Watson, a non-fiction writer and poet, lives in Washington, D.C.
