A Bethesda man has been arrested and charged with kidnapping after allegedly holding a woman at gunpoint, Montgomery County Police (MCPD) said in a press release.
Robert Deeter, 31, was taken into custody on Friday, April 18, following a reported kidnapping in the 10300 block of Old Georgetown Road.
Police said officers responded around 2:30 p.m. to reports of a possible abduction.
A short time later, they located Deeter driving a red Toyota RAV4 in the 7000 block of Democracy Boulevard with an adult female passenger inside.
Authorities followed the vehicle to the area of Rockledge Drive and I-270, where the woman managed to escape by jumping from the car.
She told officers that Deeter, an acquaintance, had abducted her at gunpoint.
Deeter was tracked to the area of Old Georgetown Road and Beech Avenue, where he refused to exit the vehicle.
Police said he barricaded himself inside until the Emergency Response Team (ERT) arrived. Negotiators were able to persuade him to surrender peacefully.
Officers recovered a firearm from the vehicle.
Deeter was taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit and charged with kidnapping, first-degree assault, stalking, harassment, and multiple handgun offenses.
A previous harassment case involving Deeter, originally filed last year, was recently reopened, according to case files.
He is currently being held without bond.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled May 16.
