The BIPOC & LGBTQIA+ Digital Storytelling Fellowship integrates racial equity and social justice into digital storytelling and media production. Transforming Communities Through Digital Storytelling
Position Overview:
Montgomery Community Media’s Digital Futures Institute invites applications for the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ Social Impact Fellowship. This unique initiative is designed to amplify diverse voices and foster equitable representation in media. We are seeking passionate, creative individuals from BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities who are committed to using digital media as a platform for impactful storytelling. As a fellow, you will leverage cutting-edge digital tools and storytelling techniques to bring your narratives to life, contributing to a more inclusive and representative media landscape.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create engaging and impactful digital content that reflects the experiences and perspectives of BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities in Montgomery County, Md.
- Participate in training sessions covering digital production, multimedia storytelling, journalism ethics, and emerging media technologies.
- Collaborate with peers and mentors to develop and refine storytelling projects.
- Contribute to the Digital Futures Institute’s broader mission by participating in community outreach and engagement activities.
- Present your work in public forums, including screenings, exhibitions, and digital platforms, to reach a wide audience.
Qualifications:
- A strong interest in digital storytelling, journalism, or media production. Prior experience is beneficial but not required.
- Identification as a member of the BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA+ communities.
- A commitment to racial equity, social justice, and inclusivity in media.
- Creative thinker with excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse and dynamic environment.
- Openness to receiving feedback and a desire to engage in continuous learning.
Fellowship Details:
- Duration: The fellowship will run for a period of 12 weeks, with the possibility of extension based on performance and project needs.
- Hours: 20 hrs per week
- Stipend: Each fellow will receive a stipend of $1,000 to support their participation in the program.
- Location: The fellowship will be based at the NexGen Media Lab in Silver Spring, Md, with opportunities for remote participation as projects allow.
