Two Montgomery County high school students have been selected as finalists for the 48th Student Member of the Board of Education (SMOB).
Peter Boyko, a junior at Northwest High School, and Anuva Maloo, a junior at Montgomery Blair High School, were chosen from a pool of 10 candidates and elected by more than 400 middle and high school delegates during the SMOB Nominating Convention at Watkins Mill High School on Feb. 19
Boyko is the co-president of Eco MoCo, an environmental organization with over 200 members. He also served as president of his school’s student government association and is currently the second vice president.
Boyko’s leadership experience includes working as the educational policy director for the Montgomery County Regional Student Government Association and serving as assistant chief of staff for the Lynne Harris Student Internship Program.
Maloo is the class president at Montgomery Blair and serves as workshop deputy for the Montgomery County Regional Student Government Association.
She is also the founder and president of the Northeast Consortium (NEC) and Downcounty Consortium (DCC) Advocacy Coalition (NDAC) and serves as outreach director for the Yellow Foundation, an organization focused on assisting young people in poverty.
The election will take place on April 23.
