The sounds of bluegrass music return to the Agricultural History Farm Park this September for the 16th Annual Bluegrass on the Farm concert. The Friends of the Farm Park sponsors the concert each September for a day of music in a 20th century farm setting.
Bluegrass music combines elements of old-time mountain music, square dance fiddling, blues, gospel, jazz, and popular music with its roots in the 1940s. The typical bluegrass band includes 5-string banjo, flat-top guitar, fiddle, mandolin, and bass.
This year the concert takes place Saturday, Sept. 9 from noon to 6 p.m. Enjoy an afternoon of music by the Big Howdy, Red Line Ramblers and Karen Collins & The Backroads Band.
Here’s Karen Collins & The Backroads Band performing “Daddy Can I Use the Car.”
Attendees may arrive as early as 11:30 a.m. when the gates open.
Plan a day outside, bring camping chairs and blankets for seating in the open areas. Guests may bring picnic snacks or purchase food and drinks at the farm.
Jam sessions before and after the concert take place on the farmhouse porch. Anyone interested may bring their instrument to participate.
