The Montgomery County Board of Elections is encouraging students, grades 6-12, to join its “Future Vote” Program. The program allows students to serve as Future Vote Ambassadors during early voting from Oct. 24-31. They can also volunteer on General Election Day, Nov. 5.
Students aged 16 or older can apply to be Election Workers as well.
Future Vote Ambassadors
The program is open to Montgomery County students in grades 6-12. Ambassadors will help polling stations run smoothly. Students must speak, read, and write English. Bilingual and American Sign Language skills are encouraged. Volunteers will earn Student Service Learning (SSL) hours.
Both students and guardians must attend training. In-person training will run from Oct. 8-17, 2024. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, Oct. 16. To apply, students can text “FV” to 77788 or visit www.777vote.org.
Election Workers
Students 16 or older can apply to be Election Workers. They must meet the Maryland State Board of Elections requirements and register to vote by Oct. 15. Volunteers can earn up to 25 SSL hours or a minimum stipend of $250 for a full day.
Election workers from the 2022 elections or earlier are eligible for a bonus—$100 for a full day or $50 for a half-day. To apply, text “SERVE” to 77788 or visit www.777vote.org.
Election workers must be U.S. citizens, registered to vote in Maryland, and able to speak, read, and write English. They cannot hold or run for public office or be involved in any campaigns.
Workers must complete training, which includes an online quiz and in-person sessions. They will receive payment for both training and service.
