Montgomery County Police arrested a Boyds man Thursday for possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute and a privately manufactured firearm.
Elvis Gomez, 20, was driving a blue 2016 Toyota Corolla in the area of Wisteria Drive and Father Hurley Boulevard in Germantown when police stopped him for a moving violation. Gomez turned into a shopping center where the front and rear passengers jumped out of the car and ran away, police said.
Gomez remained on the scene. He spoke with the officers and then fled down Wisteria Drive. Officers said he threw the car’s keys into a sewer drain.
Gomez was apprehended without incident, and police and personnel from the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue retrieved the keys.
Police searched the Toyota and found a fully loaded 9mm privately manufactured firearm with an extended magazine and one round in the chamber. Police said they also found a large number of individually packaged bags of marijuana.
Gomez was arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance and multiple firearm related charges.
