Disney has asked a select few regional theaters to take a shot at their own productions of this animated classic, and it’s no surprise that Olney Theatre Center got the call! Just as we’ve done with other Disney favorites like Mary Poppins and Beauty and the Beast, our production will deliver everything families love about the adventures of Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, and Olaf, along with a unique production you won’t experience anywhere else. The exhibit runs from January 8th through January 29th, with an opening reception on Second Friday, January 10th, 5 – 8pm. “Artist Portraits” is a photographic survey of hundreds of DC area artists, presented in an immersive, celebratory, kaleidoscopic, multiscreen, environment. Bud Wilkinson began the project casually, taking photos of friends at galleries, until eventually, it snowballed into a project that lasted over ten years, and documented an era of artists and their activity at multiple DC venues. Bud Wilkinson is an artist and photographer, living in Arlington, Virginia. He shows his paintings regularly, is employed as a decorative artist, and has worked in the White House, State Department, and National Gallery of Art. Enjoy additional exhibits “Surreality” with Resident Artists in the Gallery Hall, a mini-solo with Brigitte Messali in the Lounge Gallery, a Pop-Up Shop with Colleen Darkow, along with nineteen Gallery 209 Member Artists exhibiting their latest work. Open Studios building wide will welcome visitors to visit and learn. Shop and support local working artists, makers, and professionals. Light fare sponsored by The Chesapeake Framing Company and mead will be offered for sale by Clear Skies Meadery – who invite you to Savor the Sweetness of Nature.

The Lion in Winter
The Lion in Winter
January 17, 2025 - January 26, 2025
Gaithersburg Arts Barn, 311 Kent Square Rd, Gaithersburg, MD 20878, USA
Sibling rivalry, adultery, and dungeons – The Lion in Winter, by James Goldman, is a modern-day classic. Comedic in tone, dramatic in action – the play tells the story of the Plantagenet family, who are locked in a free-for-all of competing ambitions to inherit a kingdom. The queen, and wealthiest woman in the world, Eleanor of Aquitaine, has been kept in prison since raising an army against her husband, King Henry II. Let out only for holidays, the play centers around the inner conflicts of the royal family as they fight over both a kingdom and King Henry’s paramour during the Christmas of 1183. As Eleanor says, “Every family has its ups and downs,” and this royal family is no exception. (2 hours 30 minutes)

Registration is now open for Inside My Head: The Musical! Hosted by NAMI Maryland, this autobiographical performance - that explores one person’s journey with bipolar - will be held on Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025 at 8:00 pm, at the University of Maryland College Park’s Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, Gildenhorn Recital Hall. https://namimd.org/inside-my-head-the-musical/ This one-man show by Broadway pianist Zak Sandler (Mean Girls, Wicked) begins with Zak’s first manic and depressive episodes during his junior year at Yale University.
