Capitals Honor MoCo Resident John Carlson for 1000-Game Milestone

The Washington Capitals celebrated John Carlson’s 1000-game milestone with a ceremony at Capital One Arena before the game against the Ottawa Senators Sunday.

Carlson has been a Montgomery County resident since 2018.

Carlson and his family, along with Alex Ovechkin, T.J. Oshie and Tom Wilson were on the ice before the game for the celebration.

Capitals General Manager Brian MacLellan and Owner Ted Leonsis presented Carlson with gifts, including a painting of the player on a canvas made of hockey sticks.

Carlson played his 1000th against the Boston Bruins on March 30, becoming the third Caps player to reach that mark exclusively for the franchise.

The Capitals drafted Carlson in the first round of the 2008 draft, making his NHL debut in the 2009-10 season. In his now 1004 career games, Carlson has scored 149 goals and 521 assists, making him fifth all-time among Capitals players in points and first among defenseman.

During the 2017-18 postseason, Carlson scored 20 points in 24 games, helping push the franchise to their first ever Stanley Cup.

Carlson was named the team’s alternate captain during the 2019-20 and he has retained that title ever since.
