Don’t dispose of your broken remote control or old VHS tapes in the trash anymore! Montgomery County now recycles small electronics and audio and video tapes. In fact, the list of acceptable items grew by 10.
The Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) announced Wednesday residents may bring additional items for recycle to the Shady Grove Transfer Station in Derwood.
The County now accepts the following:
- Audio tapes
- Cameras
- Clocks
- Drones
- Empty printer ink and toner cartridges
- Remote controls
- Small handheld electric tools
- Small handheld vacuum cleaners
- Surveillance cameras
- VHS/cassette tapes

The County works with organizations and recycling facilities that refurbish electronics for reuse or disassemble them to sell the metal and plastic components.
Community members and businesses can take their electronic recyclables to the Shady Grove Transfer Station. The electronics drop-off is located in the recycling area of the station. residents are asked to remove the items from their vehicles.

The Shady Grove Transfer Station is located at 16101 Frederick Road in Derwood.
